Happy feet for hospital staff

Hospital staff are thrilled with their comfy new shoes.

Christmas seems to be an ongoing event for the staff at the Bertha Gxowa Hospital.

Take one look at their feet and you will understand why.

Seven hundred pairs of shoes were recently donated to all the staff at the hospital by the Germiston Rotary Club.

A list was circulated for all staff members to fill in their shoes sizes for the chance to receive the comfortable shoes.

Germiston Rotary members and friends of Bertha Gxowa Hospital, Alistair and Marion Brown, decided to extend the kind gesture to the hospital which the Rotary club had received from personal sponsors.

“After years of observing healthcare workers, they saw fit to give back to those who serve the community of Ekurhuleni by bringing them back to health,” said Thabile Mnguni, directorate of communications at Bertha Gxowa Hospital.

“We have been friends of the hospital for a very long time and we know how hard the staff work.

“Many of them stand for hours on end with little or no breaks at all,” said Marion.

Ntokozo Dladla who works as a chief porter was very excited to receive his pair of shoes.

“I did not expect the shoes to be so comfortable.

“I enjoy wearing them to work as my job requires me to walk around the hospital all day.

“Thank you Germiston Rotary for the shoes,” said Ntokozo.

“A special thank you to the Germiston Rotary Club and all those affiliated with them who made this possible,” said Thabile.
