Injured motorcyclist’s family says thanks

Family relieved that Clinton Hobson is recovering well in hospital.

The GCN recently ran an article online regarding a motorcycle accident.

The accident took place on the N12 East, near the Kraft Road off-ramp on January 14 and the motorcyclist had to be airlifted to hospital.

The motorcyclist Clinton Hobson (43) is currently recovering in the Netcare Union Hospital in Alberton.

He suffered the following injuries: a ruptured bladder, a ruptured small intestine, a broken leg, a broken hand, a broken right femur (stable pelvic fracture) and a large wound on his left leg.

There is no brain or spinal damage.

His immediate family, wife Louise, son Caldan and daughters Amber and Ashley, as well as his extended family in Gauteng, Durban, Knysna and Cape Town all rallied together and thank all who assisted Clinton.

“We have a long list of people to thank for helping my dad when he had his accident as he wouldn’t be alive without everyone who was involved,” said Amber.

The family thanks Derek Ramsay and his team from Emer-G-Med for their quick response and incredible work on the scene.

“They are said to be the best and have certainly proven it,” said Amber.

They also thank NetCare 911 for their speedy response and for airlifting Clinton to hospital in their helicopter.

Insp M J Mokwele and his team from the EMPD for returning all his personal belongings to the family personally at the hospital and for being extremely helpful and considerate.

“The Germiston City News for sharing the article and information from Emer-G-Med’s Facebook page because this helped us find him – a big thank you.

“To the people who reported the accident and the people who shared images and information on Facebook, thank you so so much, your prayers and positive thoughts have helped us so much,” said Amber.

“Last but not least, Netcare Union Hospital in Alberton for their incredible work – from trauma to surgery to ICU, every single person that helped make the process as smooth and stress free as possible, we cannot thank you enough.

“We know he is in the best hands and we are eternally grateful for all the hard work and time you have put into getting him to where he is.”

Clinton is still in ICU, but is no longer in a critical condition.

“If he wasn’t wearing his jacket and helmet, he wouldn’t have survived,” Amber said.

“This shows how important it is for motorcyclists to wear the correct gear, as this could save your life.”

Clinton is due to have a number of surgeries over the next few weeks.

“Due to everyone who was involved in helping him, he will be okay,” Amber said.
