Due to an increase in hijackings in the Elsburg policing area, the Elsburg SAPS are warning the community to be alert at all times.
They have put together the following safety tips for residents:
- Beware of people coming to you and informing you that you have a flat tyre, they may have the intention to steal items that they see inside the vehicle or hijack your vehicle.
- Always close your windows when driving in the city centre.
- Do not open your windows for hawkers along the road and at traffic lights.
- Beware of hijackings in your driveway.
- Ensure that you are not followed home by suspicious vehicles.
- Watch out for suspicious vehicles and people in your street; call the police immediately.
- Beware of people who are standing at intersections pretending to be beggars.
- Be vigilant of people who are posing as metro officers wearing jackets with metro signs on them.
