Second-hand clothes put to good use

St Catherine’s School raised money for two worthy causes, recently.

St Catherine’s recently collected second-hand clothing to help the underprivileged and to give donations to charity organisations.

The school thanks all the teachers, parents and pupils who participated in this great initiative.

The clothes were handed over to Clothes 2 Good.

The organisation uses the garments for needy people in South Africa and paid the school R7 per kilogramme of clothing collected.

On the school’s behalf, R2 per kilogramme of this was given to a non-profit organisation called Life Link 24/7 Cares, which uses the money to educate and empower people.

The remaining R5 per kilogram was donated to a charity of St Catherine’s choice, and the school chose the Sunflower Fund.

“We are happy to advise that St Catherine’s collected 177 bags of clothes,” said Charmaine Burger, marketing manager for the school.

“We have raised R2 605 for the Sunflower Fund and R1 403 for Life Link 24/7 Cares.”

The pupils were also rewarded for their hard work, with Jade Jansen collecting the most clothes and winning a R500 gift voucher.

Imogen Bell won a R200 gift voucher from the lucky draw.

Lara Montocchio’s class, Grade Five M, donated the most clothing per class.
