Resident concerned about safety

A Wychwood resident wants to know when the metro will install a new gate at their complex.

Safety is a huge concern for Wychwood resident Nokuthula Ndlovu.

Ndlovu recently contacted the GCN stating that the gate at their complex, Geldenhuis Garden Flats, is broken.

“Our gate broke two months ago and when we reported the problem to the metro, they sent out municipal workers to come and look at the gate,” she said.

“We appreciate that they sent workers to come out, but the only thing the workers did was inspect the gate and take it off.”

Ndlovu also said the municipal workers frequently visit the property.

“Even after removing the old gate, the workers have made more than one trip to inspect, but we still remain without a gate.

“This is a problem because we are right next to an open space and without a gate, our safety is actually at risk.

“Thieves have access to our premises as it is just wide open where the gate was; a new gate has to be installed very soon, this is urgent.”

The metro responded to the GCN’s query regarding the installation of a new gate.

“The metro’s human settlement department is aware of the matter and quotations have been invited to determine the cost for the repairs or replacement of the gate,” said the metro’s spokesman, Themba Gadebe.

“As soon as all processes have been completed, the gate will be attended to.”
