ALERT: These Germiston areas have no water

Many Germiston areas affected by water shortages.

The metro continues to appeal to residents and businesses to utilise water sparingly.

This comes as temperatures continue to soar, putting a strain on the water supply.

There is currently no water in the following areas of Germiston:

  • Dawnview;
  • Gerdview;
  • Marlands;
  • Germiston CBD;
  • Elsburg;
  • Lambton;
  • Fishers’ Hill;
  • Wadeville;
  • Primrose Hill;
  • Sunny Rock;
  • Sunnyridge;
  • Bedfordview

The metro is, however, providing water tankers at the following locations:

  • Opposite Old Marlands Swimming Pool near Solly’s Supermarket;
  • Corner Elbertfield Avenue and Windsor Street;
  • Howe Circle;
  • Corner Jubilee and Ralston avenues;
  • Corner Fourth Avenue and Pipe Street;
  •  Corner Riley Road and Van Buuren Road, Bedfordview;
  • Van Buuren Road (east of Harper Road) in front of Virgin Active;
  • Parking area at KFC, Kirkby Road, Bedford Gardens;
  • Corner Lucas Lane and Norman Road, Bedfordview (in front of Hyundai);
  • Corner Fairway Avenue and Penthurst Avenue, Essexwold.

The levels in the reservoirs supplying the following areas are at a critical level and there may be low water pressure:

Southern parts of Ekurhuleni

  • Bedford Gardens;
  • Malvern East;
  • Parts of Katlehong;
  • Zonkizizwe;
  • Magagula Heights;
  • Moleleki One, Two and Three.

Consumers in all areas of Ekurhuleni are requested to adhere to the following measures:

  • No filling of swimming pools;
  • No gardening and irrigation at all unless you make use of grey water;
  • No water washing of pavements and cars;
  • Reduce showering time and capture in buckets the cold water that initially comes from the shower;
  • Repair leaking cisterns.

If the situation in all of the areas deteriorates further, the metro will implement water shedding measures and shut off supply from 10pm to 3am.

Water and sanitation officials at the metro are continuously monitoring the levels at reservoirs throughout the city and will implement water shedding measures as required.
