Resident shares his traumatic experience

Armed robbers leave Albemarle residents traumatised.

“I was busy gardening in my yard when I was approached by three men who wanted to ask a few questions,” said the victim of armed robbers, who would like to remain anonymous.

“I had a for sale sign on my gate advertising a quad bike I wanted to sell, in which the men pretended to be interested.

“They came into the yard and took a look at it and said they would return at the end of the month.”

The Albemarle resident said the horror started when one of the robbers asked for water.

“As they were leaving, one of the men asked for water and I showed him the tap, and explained that I use the outside tap, when gardening, as I am usually too dirty to go inside the house.

“When the man insisted on drinking from a glass I realised that something was not right.

“When I reached for the keys, I wanted to press the panic button, but I pressed the garage door button instead and, when the men realised that I had pressed the wrong button, they took out their guns and forced me inside the house.”

The resident explained that he was not home alone.

“My wife was in the house and we were both beaten and tied up,” he said.

“The men took our belongings and loaded them into their car and took off.

“I am reaching out to the community to be extra vigilant, as these men were all well-dressed and presentable.

“They were all wearing jackets so as to hide their guns and they were driving a metallic red Toyota Yaris.

“The vehicle is dented on the front left.

“We don’t wish what happened to us on anybody, please be careful and alert at all times.”
