No water restrictions yet, says metro

Residents must save water to avoid water restrictions.

The metro has told the GCN that at this stage it is not required to implement water restrictions.

However, it acknowledges the fact that there are currently challenges pertaining to the availability of water.

“We are, therefore, highlighting the importance of saving water by engaging with our communities, as well as implementing projects such as the replacement of dilapidated water pipelines, of which the Germiston CBD is the pilot project,” said spokesman for the metro Themba Gadebe.

“The department has also increased capacity and introduced advanced technical measures to address challenges of water interruptions as a result of burst pipes.”

Gadebe further encouraged residents to report all water and sewer complaints promptly to the call centre, in order to try to save water.

Residents are also asked to use water sparingly.
