Matrics have a magical evening

All glammed up for their big night.

There was great excitement in the air, last Saturday, as matric pupils from Afrikaanse Hoërskool Germiston, got ready for their big night.

Thanks to charity organisation A Girl and Guy’s Dream Come True, 15 children got to live out their dream matric farewell evening.

The organisation was started by Louise Wood and her son, Jason van Schalkwyk, a few years ago and has been growing in strength ever since.

Not only do they make sure that deserving matric pupils have their dream matric farewell, they have also started a training academy where youngsters are trained in the mechanical field.

The pupils gathered at Lions Rest, in Lambton, to start the preparations for their big night.

The venue graciously gave the matrics rooms in which to get ready, as well as making sure they had a good lunch.

DJL Hair Studio did all the pupils’ hair for the event and students from Ekurhuleni West College Germiston Campus made sure the girls looked fabulous by doing their make-up, nails and waxing.

The girls’ dresses and boys’ suits were sponsored by Bon Bon’s, in Alberton, and fashion designer Michael Bezuidenhout personally dressed four of the girls.

Cars for the evening were sponsored by various community members.

Next year the organisation plans to help even more students from a number of schools in the area to have their dream matric farewells.

Local lass Jessica Smith was also introduced as the charity’s new ambassador, a role to which she is looking forward.

Each and every pupil looked gorgeous and their parents were delighted to see them dressed to the nines.

It was definitely a matric farewell to remember.
