Tennis fever in Germiston

Ekurhuleni Tennis School of Excellence held its quarterly junior tennis tournament at the Germiston Stadium.

The Ekurhuleni Tennis School of Excellence (ETSOE) held its quarterly tournament at the Germiston Stadium on Saturday.

“We have junior tennis players from Delville, Lambton, Dinwiddie, and Elsburg,” said the head coach at the club, Loyiso Matsha.

“The aim is to inculcate good habits amongst the children, and for them to learn a skill other than academic education.

“We use these tournaments to train the youngsters for competitions and bigger tournaments.”

Matsha also said the quarterly and internal tournaments will be an on-going occurrence.

“Next year, we are looking at hosting four tournaments that will be held in different venues,” he said.

“The youngsters really look forward to these tournaments as they are able to put their training to the test and one can see the improvement these tournaments have on their skills.”

In other news, three members from the club have been taking part in the Gauteng East Junior Squads.

“Tadiwanashe Chipfakacha (15), Jaydan Rooskrantz (9) and Lethabo Bapela (12) have been taking part in the provincial squads since June, this year, and have been doing very well,” explained Matsha.

“The provincial squads are the yardstick towards provincial and national colours, as once a week the children are trained by the best coaches in Gauteng and practise with the best juniors in the province.

“Sport is an entertainment, it is a way of life, which if harnessed properly could result in good health habits and good values.

“These values include time management, discipline, dedication and a desire to succeed.

“The children will be able to apply these values in their future careers.

“Parents who would like to have their children play the sport are more than welcome to bring their children to the club.”
