Open letter to all Din-Al-View area residents

"The crime stats are out and they speak for themselves."

Vaughn Jones, vice-chairman of the Din-Al-view CPF, writes:

The crime stats are out and they speak for themselves.

We as community members can no longer sit back and wait for things to improve.

Visit www.dinalview.co.za for more information.

The Din-Al-View CPF committee has numerous ongoing projects.

We have both short and long-term projects.

The short-term project is an intense public awareness campaign which consists of placing large CPF boards throughout the area, to make both criminals and the community aware “that this community is watching and reporting on criminal activities.”

The community can see the first board which has been set up at the Germiston Veterinary Hospital in Black Reef Road.

The long-term project is to set up a safe house to act as a community centre and control room, which will also offer trauma counselling facilities.

However, such projects cost money and the current CPF income stream is insufficient to meet our short-term goals let alone our long-term goals.

Just the board project is estimated to cost R29 000.

We have approximately 4 000 residential units – houses, flats and townhouses in our area, and less than 10 per cent are members of the CPF and less than two per cent of that make financial donations religiously to the CPF, and for these members we are extremely grateful because without their support, the Din-Al-View CPF would no longer exist.

This basically gives the CPF anywhere between R1 900 to R2 500 income per month including the profit from the boerewors roll sales once a month.

Realistically we cannot achieve our goals with such limited resources.

We are, therefore, calling on all our CPF members to consider making a minimum monthly donation of R20 per month into our CPF bank account.

If our members are forthcoming we would look at approximately R6 500 per month, with this we can achieve our board project by March 2016 and then we move on to our next project to improve our radio network.

We also need community members to join the CPF, the more people who join, the better.

We realise that everyone in our community is busy, but the CPF committee cannot do this alone and if everyone climbs in and does just a small thing to assist the CPF, either in time or money,we can make our community a safer place, where our children can go play in the park without the fear of being approached by drug dealers or criminal elements.
