Children must take heed of these safety tips.

The Germiston SAPS are warning school children to be alert and aware at all times.

Capt Manaka George Raphulu, head of communications for the Germiston SAPS, said: “School pupils are warned that they are being targeted by robbers, especially in the afternoons when they are walking home from school.

“A number of cases have been reported where the pupils have been robbed of their important belongings in the Germiston area.”

He has the following safety tips for children:

  • Walk in groups after school, not alone.
  • Pupils must hide their cellphones and other important belongings at all times.
  • Pupils must be aware of the hot spots (near the bridge next to Germiston Lake and at all train stations).
  • Do not talk to strangers.
