A 23-year-old Diepsloot-based actress said joining a well-known SABC 1 soap opera has helped her gain confidence and love for her acting craft.

Precious Ndhlovu recently secured a feature role as Angel, a restaurant waiter in Generations, The Legacy.

She said growing up in the dusty streets of Diepsloot, she never thought of becoming an actor because of her shyness. However, in 2013, a local film producer and director at Selaelo Chuene Art Centre, Papi Sekgethi introduced her to acting classes.

“When I started attending acting classes at Selaelo Chuene Art Centre, I never thought acting was for me. I attended because Papi pushed me and encouraged me to attend classes and because I had nothing to do at home besides my schoolwork.”

In 2019, Ndhlovu scooped a role in SABC 2 Afrikaans soap, 7de Laan as a nurse. “The feature role I got from 7de Laan made me realise that I have acting talent. From there, I developed a love and passion for acting and I was craving to learn more about it.”

Following the outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, Ndhlovu took a break from acting to focus on her studies. “That break helped me cope with a new method of online learning as I was about to finish my studies in information technology. Last year, I went back to acting and secured a feature role as Angel in Generations, The Legacy.”

She encouraged young aspiring actors to pay no attention to the temptations of giving up on their dreams.
