Try out these summer cocktail recipes

JOBURG– Cocktail ideas to try out while you're enjoying your holiday.

Covid-19 has been a tricky road to travel.
For everyone’s health and safety millions of people spent months indoors. One of the most contentious issues during the lockdown was the ban on alcohol.

Now that the alcohol ban has been lifted, you might be keen to try out some new cocktails.

This recipe for sangria is inspired by the Minimalist Baker. For this sangria recipe you will need:

1/2 medium apple
1/2 medium orange
3 to 4 tablespoons of brown sugar
3/4 cup orange juice (plus more to taste)
1/3 cup brandy (plus more to taste)
750ml bottle dry red wine
1 cup ice to chill.

Add apples, oranges, and sugar to a large jug and muddle with a wooden spoon for 45 seconds.
Add orange juice and brandy and muddle again to combine for 30 seconds.
Add red wine and stir to incorporate, then taste and adjust flavor as needed.
Add ice and stir once more to chill.

If you crave something else, try a frozen blackberry margarita by blogger Michael Wurm of Inspired By Charm. Here is what you will need for the cocktail:

4 cups frozen blackberries

1/3 cup honey

1 cup tequila

1/4 cup orange liqueur – I prefer Cointreau

1/4 cup freshly squeezed lime juice

Two cups ice

Salt, lime wedges, and frozen blackberries for garnish.

Place all the ingredients in an electric blender with ice and blend until smooth. Serve in a glass with a salted rim and lime wedges.
