Lala Skhulu’s music heals the soul

DIEPSLOOT – The rise of piracy in the local music industry forced the local artist to release his music on digital platforms.

Following the release of his hit single Kusazoshuba in June this year, local music artist and songwriter, William ‘Lala Skhulu’ Sekgobela (28) said he would drop his extended play (EP) featuring seven tracks in February next year.

Sekgobela said his EP would be a unique offering to his music fans following the devastating two years of lockdown.

He said being in the music industry and performing in different music events for the past 10 years had helped him gain a good understanding of what his fans wanted.

Sekgobela said, “Kusazoshuba received a positive response from music lovers. Every time I write a song, I put myself in the shoes of a listener and that is what makes my music different. Music is food for the soul. It is important to know your market as an artist in order to serve them [fans] with the right menu. That is why I decided to give myself enough time to release my EP. I’m hoping to take music lovers out of lockdown mode with my next EP.”

He added the rise of music piracy in the creative industry had forced him to use digital music platforms to distribute his music and reach his fan base. “My last music project was released in 2018.

“My single track Kusazoshuba, was available only on digital music platforms but I was puzzled with the manner in which music lovers responded to it.”
