Local dancer excited for Croatia 2022

DAINFERN – After placing fourth in a Dance World Cup Competition, Grade 5 learner Aneeqa Moore trained harder to qualify for finals in Croatia next year.

A Grade 5 Dainfern College learner excelled in a recent dance competition which will see her go to Croatia next year.

Young Aneeqa Moore came first in the Dance Star Competition which took place in Centurion on September 25.

Before this competition, she had placed second in her group during the Dance World Cup Competition in May and was set to go to the United Kingdom in August. Unfortunately, she had to stay behind due to South Africa’s placing on the red list in the UK. After competing virtually, Aneeqa placed fourth worldwide. “I felt really sad [competing virtually] because I was really excited to go to the UK and compete there. I was really happy [making the final] and saw my mom in the audience giving me a thumbs up and I knew what she was thinking that I did it,” she said.

When she narrowly missed out on finishing third in the World Cup, Aneeqa knew she had to change something to place higher in the next competition. “I had to work on maintaining my energy throughout my dance and make sure that my moves were more prominent. But I am proud of myself because I did my best to get there and I hope that I will place in the top three in next year’s finals,” she said.

After placing first at the recent Dance Star Competition, she qualified to go to the finals in Croatia next year. Aneeqa concluded, ” [I am] nervous and excited to represent SA, and hoping that it will not be cancelled because of Covid.”
