Richie Teanet brings a different sound to South African music industry

MIDRAND– Richie said growing up in a musical family triggered and nurtured his love for music.

Following the successful release of his single track Menyonyo in May this year, local Afro-pop music artist, songwriter and deejay, Richie Teanet is set to release his eight-track extended play (EP) in September this year.

The Midrand-based multi-talented music artist and co-founder of Rise Teanet music group said growing up in a musical family triggered and nurtured his love for music.

“I grew up in a musical family with both my father Peta Teanet and my mother Vuyelwa Teanet as professional musicians. My father Pete was known as one of the greatest Xitsonga disco musicians in South Africa. I started being involved with music when I was only 11 years old as a member of a choir in the church back in my hometown Tzaneen, Limpopo,” he said.

In 2017, Richie and his younger brother Boy Teanet formed Rise Teanet music group to keep their father’s legacy alive. He later went solo to explore and validate the authenticity of his music talent. “My music journey has not been as smooth sailing as many people might assume. I had to work with many different music artists in order to learn and understand the dynamics of the industry. My EP has been in the pipeline for some time and I am grateful that it’s finally coming out. I hope that it will receive a positive response from music lovers as Menyonyo did.”

He concluded that his album was a great combination of different sounds and genres.
