Check out the variety of free hiking trails and parks on offer in Joburg this festive season.
Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo encourages residents to enjoy their staycation in Joburg by embracing green spaces across the city.
MMC for Community Development Margaret Arnolds said, “With the relaxation of Covid lockdown regulations and reopening of parks, nature reserves and public swimming pools, Joburg offers you and your family the best spots to enjoy this silly season.”
Holiday makers are encouraged to visit Joburg Zoo with its 320 species of animals, which is open to the public from 8.30am to 4.30pm every day, including Christmas and New Year’s Day.
The zoo also co-hosts the Festival of Lights between 23 November and 3 January showcasing an array of life-sized animals and festive-themed lighting. Tickets cost R90 for pensioners, R75 for children and R150 for adults on www.joburgtheatre.com
Joburg also offers a number of free hiking options including The Wilds in Houghton, Klipriversberg Nature Reserve in the south, Kloofendal Nature Reserve, Lonehill and Melville koppies, and Northcliff Hill.
“Joburg offers residents an array of outdoor spaces to choose from and we encourage families during these unprecedented times to take the opportunity to explore the secrets of Jozi this festive season.
“Park users must remember to wear their masks and practise safe social distancing,” concluded Arnolds, also encouraging park users to abide by park bylaws.
