City Power appeals for patience as they address electricity restoration backlogs

JOBURG – City Power said they are dealing with outage backlogs in most areas.

City Power has appealed for patience from customers as they address the backlogs in the restoration of electricity to most outstanding areas.

“We have several areas across the City of Johannesburg that has gone for over two weeks without electricity,” City Power said on 20 July. “This is partly due to the lack of material and stock in our stores which delays the turnaround time to do the repairs.”

City Power said these materials included spare pole-mounted transformers, mini-substations, and fuses, among others. Overloading on the network has also lead to many of the materials ‘blowing up or burning’, leading to an increase in their demand. “We also had problems with finding the suppliers for this material as City Power, due to the Covid-19 challenges.”

According to City Power, they have started to receive most of the materials from Friday (17 July) and are working to complete the repairs which have started. It is expected that repairs will continue into this coming week.

“While we try our best as City Power to attend to the outage backlogs, we appeal to you to bear with us and be patient as we work to deal with the increase in demand and backlogs,” said City Power.

“We also appeal to you to cooperate with our teams when they do their job in your area. We will not hesitate to pull out our teams if we believe they are not safe, which will prolong the outages. We apologise for the inconvenience caused to those affected by these prolonged outages.”
