Bring a smile to little ones this festive season

DIEPSLOOT – It was a day of fun costumes and wonderful entertainment as 1 500 Diepsloot children received a special party from the Family Africa.

Faith-based organisation Family Africa recently made youngsters from Diepsloot smile by hosting a very special party in the informal settlement.

Two aerial acts, a female strength act, fire breathing, dancers, magic shows, a mega bubble act along with super heroes Blank Panther, Superman, Spiderman with Princesses Elsa, Sophia and Anna and more brought colour and excitement to the Family Africa’s 16th Annual Party to the crèches of Diepsloot.

One of the biggest hits this year were the ‘mini me’ superheroes and princesses who joined in the opening parade through the crowd of about 1 500 and joined them on stage with the opening action songs including Baby Shark, which the children loved.

The children and teachers were thrilled with the party food and ice pops to cool them down as the excitement grew as they watched the show. This year was, as usual, full of colourful dancers, magic and awe-inspiring acts.

All the entertainers are members of Family Africa and volunteer their time all year round, not just at Christmas.

“These parties are a highlight for the children of Diepsloot and we are very thankful for the continued sponsorship of the Sandton Roundtable and Pattern Matched Technologies, Midrand,” said Rachel Aird, the chairperson of Family Africa.

“Every crèche which attended has been part of our training programmes during 2019 and many of the children have also attended our enrichment programmes at our centre, focusing on early numeracy and literacy.

“So this party also serves as a end of year celebration for all the crèches involved and we hope each year to upgrade the skill sets of the teachers and improve the educational opportunities of the children”

Aird added that there were more parties happening in the next month and Family Africa was still in need of second-hand playground equipment, books, toys and other donations to be distributed to children.
