The Experience:
Sandibe is located in a 22 500 hectare concession that borders with the Moremi Game Reserve in the Okavango Delta. This region offers incredible game viewing with frequent sightings of African wild dog, lion, elephant, semi-aquatic red lechwe antelope, hippo, and giraffe. The Okavango is a huge marshland that offers sanctuary to a number of bird species. The Moremi Game Reserve in particular boasts more than 400 bird species.
During your stay at Sandibe, you can look forward to morning and evening open-vehicle game drives led by some of the best rangers and trackers, guided bush walks, optional scenic flights over the gorgeous Delta, and mokoro and boating safaris that offer up-close viewing of hippos, crocodiles and an array of water birds and antelope. Back at the lodge, the dining experience is out of this world with open-air dining venues and sumptuous meals prepared by top chefs. The evenings are gorgeous at Sandibe with lit lanterns, roaring campfires and a clear night sky lit up with stars.
The Lodge’s Design:
The lodge itself has an awe-inspiring architectural design that is complemented with opulent accommodation and a personalized service. The lodge resembles that of a Pangolin with the creative use of wood and timber shaped to mirror the body and scales. Featuring various copper elements, a dining room table carved from the root of an ironwood tree, locally woven carpets and various open-air spaces, Sandibe blends in seemingly with the surrounding Delta channels and huge Marula trees that are positioned at the front of the lodge. These trees are a firm favorite for elephants so it’s not unlikely for your dinner out in the boma to be interrupted by the arrival of an elephant herd, but it’s part of being in Africa and is a sight to behold.
