Xstatic Dance Studio busts top moves at 2018 Studio Championships

FOURWAYS – Feet were tapping and hips were moving as the Xstatic Dance Studio hosted its annual studio championship competition

Xstatic Dance Studio held its 2018 Studio Championships with an X(static)-Factor theme on 2 December at Mount Usambara in Krugersdorp.

Dancers showed off their skills as they showed off their moves to friends and family.

The studio, owned by Lindy Liebmann, has branches in Fourways, Kyalami and Floracliffe.

Dancers participated in various categories from duet and trios, to groups and solo items in different genres including jazz, acrobatics, hip-hop, show dance, modern and breakdance.

The competition was judged by Quintus Jansen, the well-known South African choreographer of Strictly Come Dancing and producer of the World of Dance South Africa among others. Jansen holds a Licentiate from the International Dance Teachers Association, making him one of the country’s highest qualified dance adjudicators.

Other judges included Ipeleng Merafe, a ballerina who has participated in tours of Dada Masilo’s Swan Lake, Giselle and Carmen; Mike Lamfel, founder of the Creed Hip-Hop Crew; Jen Steele and Natasha Joseph who are both international champions in Irish dancing.

Dancers ranged between four and 16 years old and the studio’s own World Championships of Performing Arts silver medallist, Tenicke Smit (18) acted as

emcee at the event.

• Overall junior soloist of the year:

Danni-Leigh Slater (10)

• Senior soloist of the year: Moya

Wolfaardt (13)

• Juvenile top soloist: Alicia Vargas (7)

• Best overall group: Skye Prestia, Gabi van

den Berg, Skyla Visser, Mika Kretzmar and

Tilly Nejhardt

• Best duet/trio: Isabella Strever, Erin Flint

and Sabine Tyson.
