Shot in one take, the camera focuses directly on Silverman as she expresses very natural, vulnerable expression that’s raw and filled with emotion.
Artist and concept designer, Alexis Aronson, created a series of tally marks in the background that gradually increase in intensity and speed throughout the video, like a time bomb. A flickering reminder of the many casualties suffered in the pursuit of greed.
‘Dear Life,’ her album is delicate and raw, and totally unapologetic, sees Jeri pulling up soul-stirring melodies with a percussive folk pop edge. Trading Cape Town’s mountains and seas for the skyscrapers of New York City, the concrete sidewalks provided a fertile ground for self-discovery and allowed her innate song writing talent to flourish.
“These songs represent parts of my journey in New York, and it’s really exciting to have them all speak for themselves. ‘Green’ speaks to trusting your intuition, even when you don’t know exactly where you’re going and ‘If I could’ is a very personal expression of feeling stuck within a relationship and needing to make a decision,” comments Silverman.
‘Dear Life’ is an album about finding your way. It’s an ode to getting stuck in uncomfortable places, a yearning to fly, and a fight to discover the fire within.
The album is the follow-up to Silverman’s debut EP ‘Leaflike’ and unleashes a bolder, more expressive tone that builds on the blend between live acoustic guitar and electronic soundscapes. With influences from artists such as Ani DiFranco, Bjork, Ben Howard and Fleetwood Mac, the album is a collection of songs that explore the interplay between the darkness and light.
