Fourways gospel singer to take to the stage in Cape Town

FOURWAYS – Fourways resident and gospel singer Martin PK will be holding his own concert in Cape Town this August as he shares his faith with the world.

Gospel singer and Fourways resident, Martin Phike, better known as Martin PK, is about to host his very own concert in Cape Town, which will also be recorded live, for a DVD.

The 36-year-old – who also owns his own record label hosts a gospel TV show, is an accomplished songwriter and also a choir director – will be performing live at the Every Nation Church in Goodwood, Cape Town, on 24 August. Joining him on stage will be Nigerian gospel singers Sinach and Isaiah Samson as well as local talents, Swazi Dlamini and Zaza Mokethi.

“I’m so excited for this concert,” he told the Fourways Review. “A lot of people were trained in singing, but for me, it was just a gift I have.

“I’m excited to get on stage and preach between songs, and if I can find one person [in the audience] to hear the story of God, I’ll have been successful.”

Born in Cape Town, the musician signed his first record deal in 1996 at 15 years old and was first recognised for his involvement with the Coca-Cola PopStars talent search television show, which he won in 2004. A few years into his success, he found his faith, a change of heart he credits to his wife Khani.

“She was a believer, and so at peace with who she was, it really caused me to look at my own life.

“At that time of my life the money was there [for me], the fame was there, but I was not a nice person. The entertainment industry is a lot of drinking, a lot of ladies and it was time for a change. Since I received the Lord, it’s been a different story. I can be real and live my life without a facade, and bring the gospel to others.”

Martin and his wife of nine years, Khanyi, now live in Northriding with their daughter (8) and son (4).

Organising his own concert has been a challenge, admits PK, but thanks to the love and support of friends and colleagues the show is coming together well. The production will also be filmed for a live DVD, which will be released in the coming months.

“I’m trying to celebrate every victory. For people who can’t get to Cape Town to see the show [on 24 August], we will stream the show live for about 20 minutes on my Instagram page and on Youtube.”
