Lonehill resident, Prof. Shikha Vyas-Doorgapersad launched her new book, Public Budgeting in African Nations: Fiscal Analysis in Development Management, at the University of Johannesburg.
Vyas-Doorgapersad works at the university’s College of Business and Economics.
The book published by Routledge publishers in the United Kingdom was co-edited by Peter F Haruna, who is a professor of public administration at the Texas Agricultural and Mechanical International University in the US.
According to Vyas-Doorgapersad, the book is an integrated synthesis of studies from 11 African economies in a country-specific scenario.
“The book makes a significant contribution towards expanding the theoretical and empirical understanding of public expenditure formulation and management in an African context,” Vyas-Doorgapersad said.
She added that the book had contributions from academic authors of various African countries and together they shared a collective cross-border intellectual consciousness.
Sydney Mufamadi, the former minister for Provincial and Local Government, who is currently director of the School of Leadership at the University of Johannesburg, attended the launch.
