Grietfest bringing back the bass with its seventh annual event

JOBURG – "We have skull-banged you with DJs bringing the freshest beats from across the globe and paid homage to the kings and queens of the SA electronic music industry and now the time has come for us to do it all again."

The Grietfest returns to Johannesburg once again for its seventh annual dance party spectacle on 26 August 2017.

What started out as just a little alleyway party has, over the years, morphed into a party that now sees more than 4 000 partygoers attend the event to have the time of their lives. This year promises to be even bigger and better than previous years.

“It’s hard to believe how far we’ve come since the inception of this idea. At the beginning, it was really just a couple of hundred people and now we are doing much bigger numbers at a bigger venue,” said Johan Auriacombe, one of the organisers of the event.

This year, Grietfest will welcome three international acts, Billy Kenny, The Prototypes and Ivy Lab. Kenny is a prominent artist mainly within the underground UK house and bass scene. The Prototypes are a British drum and bass duo consisting of Nick White and Chris Garvey. Ivy Lab is a very popular trio also from the UK’s dance and electronic scene.

“Having these three international acts is a big deal for the event because these artists are doing incredible work on their home turf when it comes to growing the underground scene,” said Auriacombe.

These international artists will be sharing the spotlight with almost 30 local acts who have been booked to perform at the festival. The event will consist of five different stages where those attending will be able to enjoy the best in local and international dance music from genres such as drum and bass, electronic and techno music.

“At the end of the day, we just want to provide people with good vibes and music to enjoy with their friends. People can look forward to the best in drum and bass, techno, house, electro, dubstep, bass house, hip-hop, disco, trap and some great underground sounds.”
