Ready to get the crowd out of their seats and onto their feet, Dainfern College hosted a night of rock through a battle of the bands with stunning prizes up for grabs. The crowd was ready and so were the bands. They each had 12 minutes to showcase themselves on stage, and so they did.
The bands shared their love for music with the Fourways Review and shared a little bit about themselves moments before the epic sounds of Nirvana and Linkin Park filled the auditorium.
Sunday Nights, from Beaulieu College, all agreed that wherever life might take them in the future, music will stay a part of their journey.
Rush, from Saint Stithians College, described their genre as classic rock and their top three bands they look up to were Guns N’Roses, Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Foo Fighters. They admitted they were nervous but also very excited about the evening.
The performing bands were the Saints Republic from St Stithians College, Broken Symmetry from Crawford College, Unchartered from Charter College, Rush from St Stithians College, Hipnotic from St John’s College, Sunday Night from Beaulieu College and The Undecided from Dainfern College.
Hipnotic, is a contemporary jazz band that took the crowd by surprise with their smooth skills and epic sounds; they also took home first prize, which was a cash voucher worth R2 500 from Mitech Direct and four headphones, one for each band member.
Second prize went to Broken Symmetry. They received a cash voucher worth R1 500 from Mitech Direct and a cap each from Sennheiser.
The Undecided and Rush tied in third place, with both bands commended for their stage presence. The night was a smashing success and parents and children went home with smiles on their faces.
