Youth knows no bounds

FOURWAYS – Josh Middleton tells his tale in the world of music and inspires others to chase their dreams, no matter their age.

Fourteen-year-old Josh Middleton is a passionate musician and wants to dominate the music world and is starting with his debut album he is currently working on.

He is a Fourways resident and puts his heart and soul is put into his music. Middleton plays the piano and has also started to write his own lyrics, his first hit single was Monster which was number one for nine weeks 5FM; in the South African Top 30 Charts, and has been played on various South African radio stations.

“The majority of my music is pop and I find my inspiration from different things I see and experience,” said Middleton. He has written over 50 songs and hundreds of memos and drafts.

“I always loved singing and I would always cover other artist’s songs.” This helped Middleton realise that he had a love for music. The well-known singer Chiano Sky inspired Middleton to write his own lyrics and helped him write in a practical writing session – he started writing his own lyrics in January last year. “One session with Chiano Sky got me hooked on song writing.”

Josh Middleton wants to encourage other youngsters to follow their dreams; regardless of their age and that South African music is up to international standards.

Middleton is currently working on his new album and is excited to share it with the public. “The new album is about never giving up; there are also a lot of ideas about the music industry and me being so young in the industry,” he said. Middleton explained to Fourways Review that it is difficult to get a message across at such a young age since people find it hard to trust a fourteen-year-old.

“People are sceptical about hiring a [child] for [performances] and wonder whether you will be able to entertain a crowd of 20 000 people. I think that it is all about trust, building a reputation and never giving up.”

Middleton described his new album as current and similar to his hit single, Monster.

Middleton described previous failures as something that fuels his passion and pushes him to work even harder at achieving his musical goals. “I want my music to prove that age has nothing to do with the quality of your music and that South Africa can produce international standards in the art of music,” said the passionate singer.
