No dream too big for Fourways resident who fought many illnesses

FOURWAYS – There are some people in this world who are born to inspire. Read about one Fourways resident who is inspiring the community.

Fourways resident Janette Swart (23) is a young woman who is inspiring the community despite suffering from dermatomyositis, a rare disease which causes inflammation of the skin and degeneration of the muscle tissue and collagen.

A survivor of chronic myeloid leukemia and meningitis, Swart went into remission to eventually participate in the recent 2017 Face of Figures competition.

After being in and out of hospital last year, having been diagnosed with osteoarthritis, which causes muscle stiffness and pain, Swart removed the brace she wears for support and competed in the competition wholeheartedly.

Janette Swart tells people to never give up their dreams.

She is always giving back to the community as has been collecting clothing for the Louis Botha Children’s Home for three years.

The young fighter still plans to live a full life, as well as plans to compete in the 947 Cycle Challenge and in a future Warrior Race.

“My dream is to be a Miss Earth South Africa winner. I know it seems impossible, but I love helping people and taking care of our earth. I think I’ll be a great ambassador and a great example for patients living with diseases,” said Swart.

“I’m tired of being told that I have limited options in life and I want to prove that everyone can live a normal life to an extent.”
