Applications open for M-Net Magic in Motion Academy

FOURWAYS – Something for filmmakers and motion pictures lovers.

Filmmakers and motion picture lovers are in for a treat this year as M-Net is once again proudly supporting the development of young talent in the entertainment industry with its Magic in Motion Academy programme.

This year, a four-day Magic in Motion Career Expo will be held as well as a new scholarship programme.

Since 2014, the academy has provided top film and television graduates with the opportunity to make their dreams come true and to learn from some of the country’s top producers while gaining far-reaching experience in the industry.

M-Net will also take on interns for this year’s programme, which aims to develop a talent pool in the film and television industry while simultaneously cultivating homegrown content.

The programme begins in May under the guidance of the academy director, Bobby Heaney, and M-Net CSI and skills development manager, Ashika Kirpal.

“As M-Net celebrates 30 years as the pay-TV pioneer on the continent, we understand the importance of investing in stories for Africans, by Africans and we are once again showing our commitment to taking talented youngsters under our wing to bring more local content to life,” said M-Net chief executive officer, Yolisa Phahle.

The academy interns will receive hands-on training in producing, directing, cinematography, production commissioning, concept creation, script writing, sound, art direction, editing, post-production and much more.

The programme has been designed to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical implementation in order to produce highly employable professionals.

Upon completion of the 12-month programme, M-Net will choose three exceptional interns to produce their own films with funding provided by M-Net and, like years gone by, some of these movies could find their way onto small screens.

If you or someone you know has what it takes to be part of this year’s academy, send your application to M-Net before 31 January.
