AKA win’s again

JOBURG – It's a hat-trick for the Supamega, AKA.

For the third year, rapper AKA and singer Zakes Bantwini have faced off in a challenge for good.

The pitch at Discovery Soccer Park was on fire on 31 October – and it had nothing to do with the scorching hot temperatures experienced in Joburg. Bantwini and AKA and a blaze of celebrity friends braved the heat to play soccer for #1goal4cancer, a Breast Cancer Awareness Month initiative aimed at raising awareness around the importance of early detection.

In a nail-biting match that saw soccer legends such as Doc Khumalo, Lucas Radebe and Daine Klate hit the pitch with music industry personalities such as DJ Milkshake, Donald, DJ Lloyd and Miss Cosmo – the final score meant a hat trick for Team AKA who finished up 16–14.

This year, legendary music brand Fender donated two Fender acoustic guitars (www.fenderfamily.co.za), which will be part of a silent auction, with the proceeds going to Cansa. Both have been signed by Zakes and AKA – a collector’s keepsake.

Bantwini said, “Thank you to all our players this year – you have played a role in getting an important message out there. Please, I’m appealing to people across our country and continent, go for cancer screenings and arm yourself with knowledge.”A special thank you to our amazing sponsors Adidas, Nike, Masculin, Dragon Energy Drink, Fender and Lindt.”

The auction for the electrifying Fender guitars closed on 7 November, and the money raised from its sale will assist Bantwini to raise funds for cancer research.
