One unique station that was getting much attention throughout the expo from 7 to 9 October was the Blue Ocean VR (virtual reality) stall. This gave individuals the experience of stepping into a game where their environment changed to a battle arena and they could virtually hold their weapon.

Blue Ocean VR assistant Emmanuel Mogale and project manager Lulu Chen display the virtual reality headset.

Games which individuals could play ranged from slicing flying fruit to killing zombies. The device, the HTC Vive, was connected to a computer with Steam VR, which facilitates the playing, buying and downloading of games. Specifically, Steam VR is an application that facilitates virtual reality games.

With this technology, anyone could set up their computer and a perimeter of play in their own living room and experience a virtual world.

However, as project manager of Blue Ocean VR, Lulu Chen explained, the equipment’s cost is not affordable or accessible. “This is why we have opened up our experience centre for individuals to still come into contact with virtual reality.”
