New subacute facility

BRYANSTON - A new rehabilitation facility, or step-down medical facility for people discharged from hospital but who still require extra medical care, has recently opened in Bryanston.

The Bryanston Subacute facility caters for patients with medical, surgical, orthopaedic, neuro, physiotherapy and terminal care needs.

According to Marina Lindeque, nursing manager, there will be short-term stays and long-term stays for patients that need chronic care. “A patient will be referred, they will receive an authorisation number and they can stay as long as needed,” said Lindeque.

“We have a group of physios that will attend to the patients needs and also a GP that will visit the facility on a daily basis or as needed.”

There are 20 beds in the facility with a general ward with four beds; five two-bed wards and six single-bed wards. “We recently had a Department of Health inspection and our subacute was approved and we have the certificate. We are currently waiting for a practice number from the Board of Health Care Funders that will enable us to submit to the medical aids,” added Lindeque.

“At the moment the facility is open for patients but they will need to pay cash until they receive the practice number.” said Lindeque.

The facility has a consultation room, a patio area and a dining area and there are two resident chefs that will be preparing the meals.
