Uber’s driver deactiviation policy

JOHANNESBURG - Uber makes its driver deactivation policy clear.

The popular transport company, Uber, recently shed some light on their driver policy by keeping standards high and keeping passengers safe.

When Uber first launched in 2013, it was easy to work with a handful of drivers, but they have since expanded to more cities and it is important that every driver using the app understands the processes as to why they may be deactivated or have restricted access to the app. According to Samantha Allenberg, spokesperson for Uber, the driver deactivation policy is designed with the best interests of drivers and passengers in mind. It covers, among other items, issues that relate to quality, fraud, safety and discrimination .

  • Quality

After every trip, passengers and drivers rate each other out of five. The score also considers how regularly trips are cancelled after accepting a booking, as this leads to a poor experience for passengers. If the score is consistently low, there is a problem.

  • Fraud

To avoid fraud and keep passengers coming back, services should be fair and honest. It is unacceptable for drivers to intentionally increase the time or distance of a trip.

  • Safety

Uber is committed to the safety of drivers and passengers. They should only make contact through the Uber app and obey the laws of the road.

  • Discrimination

Uber does not tolerate discrimination against drivers or passengers, which includes race, religion, nationality, disability, sexual orientation, marital status, gender or age. The driver should furthermore respect people with disabilities, including service animals.

Allenberg said that The Driver Deactivation Policy helps to ensure the best possible experience for everyone and is available here.
