Meet your new spokesperson

Douglasdale Police Station has newly appointed police officers and one of them is their communications officer, Captain Mpho Kgasoane.

“I worked at Provincial Crime Prevention Unit doing crime prevention duties. I was there as a warrant officer, now I am promoted to a captain at this station, as the communications post is a captain’s post,” Kgasoane explained.

When asked how she felt about being the new spokesperson, she said, “I am very overwhelmed, as being a captain is a senior post and a warrant officer is a junior post.”

She added that what she plans to do in her new post is work the way she knows best, and will not compare her work to that of the previous spokesperson. “After all, the work has not changed, it is only the person who has changed,” she quipped.

“I will continue where the previous spokesperson left off, which is working with the community, ensuring that the relationship between the police and the community is sustained while maintaining a positive image of the police force.

“The only way we, as the police, can eradicate crime in the area will be to partner with the community and encourage them to work hand in hand with us. The community needs to join the police sector forums’ social platforms and ensure that they report anything that is necessary to the police. They need to be alert to any suspicious activity that happens in their neighbourhood.”

Kgasoane emphasised that community members need not take crime into their own hands but rather report the case to the police, as they are there to assist the community.

“Fighting crime is not an easy task but, we believe with the support of the community, we will, at the end of the day, combat crime. Let us work together and build a crime-free community,” she concluded.

Kgasoane took over from Captain Balan Muthan, who has been appointed to the Honeydew Police Station. She is the proud mother of a 13-year-old son and seven-year-old daughter.
