Sandton Convention Centre appoints new general manager
SANDTON – Shaun Bird has been appointed as the new GM of the Sandton Convention Centre.
The Sandton Convention Centre recently appointed a new general manager, Shaun Bird, who brings a wealth of experience in the management of convention facilities and hotels to the table.
Bird was previously the complex operations manager for the Grand Palm Hotel, Casino and Convention Resort in Botswana. He was born and raised in Durban and entered the industry as a graduate in hotel management, working in various four- and five-star hotels in South Africa and London.
After his return to South Africa, Bird managed the entire food and beverage operations of the Woodmead Country Club and the Carousel Casino, as well as assisted in properties such as Pecanwood Golf Estate and the Morula Sun.
Bird was appointed as manager of the Gabarone International Convention Centre in Botswana before his return to Johannesburg to take up the position of food and beverage manager at The Westcliff.
He has occupied the position of complex operations manager of the Grand Palm in Gabarone since 2009 and was part of the management team which was awarded Botswana’s first five-star grading of the hotel in 2010.
