Comedy Central cares to turn laughter into smiles

MELROSE– How to do your bid to help support underprivileged youth and babies at comedy benefit.

Comedians will gather in their bid to help support underprivileged youths and babies at a comedy benefit on 25 August.

This is thanks to comedy channel’s Comedy Central Cares on DStv channel 122, which hopes to bring smiles to the faces of underprivileged children and youths in South Africa.

Taking place at The Goliath Comedy Club, Melrose Arch, Comedy Central Cares will include stand-up sets from top SA comics Joey Rasdien, Skhumba, Snooze, Eugene Khoza, and Donovan, Jason and Nicholas Goliath. Conjuring up magical comedy will be Mo Magic, while comedy newcomer, Isabella Jane will bring her singing ventriloquism aided by sidekick puppet, Rosie. Rounding out the evening will be a charity auction.

Jason and Donovan Goliath, ambassadors of charity organisation Orange Babies, will act as emcees and celebrity auctioneers, persuading people to part with their money for the two worthy causes. The auction will include Trevor Noah’s grey silk tie from his first episode of The Daily Show; a signed photo of soccer star Lionel Messi; four nights’ accommodation for two people at the Tau Private Game Reserve; an hour in the studio live with Darren Simpson and the gang from 947’s Breakfast Express; a custom-made Marianne Fassler dress; a corporate gig by Goliath & Goliath; and a shopping and personal styling experience with the fashion editor at Zando.

Benefiting from the initiative will be Comedy Central’s nominated charities, Rockstart and Orange Babies.

Vice president of Comedy Central, Africa, Evert van der Veer said, “As a comedy channel based in Africa, we can think of nothing more fitting than using fun and laughter to raise funds for these two deserving causes. Our first benefit was well received and we look forward to generating more money that will help Rockstart and Orange Babies achieve their goals.”

Tickets for Comedy Central Cares are now available at Ticketpro priced from R 500. Doors open at 7.30pm.
