Elo takes her talent to the movies

JOBURG - Local musician takes on a movie soundtrack.

Soweto-born singer and songwriter, Elo’s latest offering is Make You Stay which was written for the local romcom Mrs Right Guy.

It begins with an emotive piano melody which introduces a graduating rhythmic section with a groovy bassline and electronic keys.

Elo confessed that she drew inspiration from personal experience when writing Make You Stay. Much like the characters in the film, we all know the fear of losing a lover.

The singer, born Lerato Sellane said, “The lyrics ‘Though I notice that it is true, truth ain’t the facts to me’ mean that even though this how I truly feel, it doesn’t have to be fact. Implying I can choose my truth outside of how I truly feel. I don’t have to make decisions based on my feelings.”

Elo became involved in the soundtrack when her producer and label manager at Post Post Music, Tshepang Ramoba, was contracted to compose the score for Mrs Right Guy.

As an artist who is always keen on collaboration, the story of the lead character’s journey left her with the yearning and hope she expresses on her musical contribution to the score.

It’s been a great year for the star and will continue to get better in June when she tours Spain and France where she has received positive media attention.

Elo will end her international engagements for this year in October on a high note when she performs at CMJ Music Marathon in New York City, but not before she brings her big voice to the premier of Mrs Right Guy to local audiences later this month.
