Thai Cooking with a twist at Food and Hospitality Africa

JOHANNESBURG – A feast for the eyes and taste buds at the Food and Hospitality show in Midrand.

Renowned chef Khun Bank of award-winning Padbok Thai restaurant was one of the chefs at the Hostex for Food and Hospitality Africa show at Gallagher Estates in Midrand.

The show which this year celebrated its 30th anniversary, along with IFEA, International Festivals and Events Association, accommodated about 300 exhibitors from more than 27 countries.

Bank demonstrated his cooking skills to visitors at the Department of International Trade Promotions booth. He said, “Thai food is enjoyed by people all over the world and it is easy to cook and tasty.” Some of the visitors at the show sampled Bank’s exotic dishes that makes Thailand a favourite culinary destination.

The show delivered an absolute array of culinary and hospitality wonders that included a broad selection of products, equipment and services, as well as demonstrations and competitions, and a host of interesting topics in the scheduled seminars and conferences.

The show attracted a broad spectrum of industry players, and several reputable associations representing the leading bodies in their respective industries partnered with the expo including the South African Chefs Association, the Speciality Coffee Association of Southern Africa, the Restaurant Association of South Africa, the South African National Halaal Association and more.

Another feast for the eyes was the South Africa Cake Decorators Guild display which celebrated the guild’s 40th anniversary with a breathtaking display. Each of the Guild’s 15 exhibits depicted individual members’ particular talents and creativity and included features such as animated figurines, fairies, a three-tier traditional cake with extension work and flowers, a celebration cake with flowers and more.

Event director of the show Nick Sarnadas said, “The show is a response to industry demands for a one-stop shop, which is designed to be the most representative hospitality, food and drink, catering equipment, and food service event on the African continent.

“Under the Food and Hospitality Africa banner, we have incorporated the hospitality and food service sectors that Hostex covers so successfully every year, while also adding food and drink, thus combining all the aspects of hospitality in one show and giving us the proud status of being the only pan-African hospitality, food and retail expo.”
