Looking for a platform to empower women

JOBURG - Read up on how Mrs South Africa contestant, Olwethu Leshabane, is taking on the world and empowering other women.

Energetic, talented and hardworking are just some of the words used to describe Mrs South Africa pageant contestant, Olwethu Leshabane, who is looking to take the crown this year.

Born in Port Elizabeth but now residing in Johannesburg with her husband Neo and two sons, Mikaili and Morgan, Leshabane is a 25-year-old who is wise beyond her years with a bustling life in the entertainment and media industries and a need to develop and empower young women.

Leshabane said, “Like many other women, I strive to wake up and be better every day.”

She is a talented brand strategist and runs her own media company, Busara Media, as well as co-owns Stanford Media. Her strategic communications skills and an inquisitive and unique eye for strategic media communication have made her a sought-after asset in the brand building, communication and public relations industry. This has led her to work with, and build, celebrity and product brands.

Leshabane has regular current affairs, lifestyle and entertainment features on a number of radio and TV platforms including e-tv, Power FM and UJFM.

Her passion for female empowerment has led her to make a positive difference in the lives of others. At the end of 2014, she formed an organisation which collects sanitary pads and donates them to underprivileged young women. This organisation, The Red Wings Project, also speaks to the lack of adequate sanitary education and facilities available to underprivileged women and girls in Africa. Leshabane said that being crowned Mrs South Africa would give her the platform to create further awareness surrounding the struggle that rural and township women face.

She believes in the sentiment that just because she has a job that requires her to be firm and stand her ground, does not make her less feminine. It just opens up doors for her to touch more lives.

This inspirational woman also runs a blog called Art of Superwoman which documents her growth as a wife and as a parent. On the blog, she writes about what is it that makes her a superwoman, a title any woman can hold if she wishes. She gives encouragement to other women and writes a lighthearted side of the journey that is life.
