Schwarzkopf Professional Mrs SA semi-finalist has a big heart

DAINFERN – Find out why Mrs SA semi-finalist has a heart of gold

Being the perfect blend of beauty and brains, it comes as no surprise that Dainfern resident, Charmaine Ellis, has been selected as a Schwarzkopf Professional Mrs SA semi-finalist.

Ellis, who prides herself on being actively involved with many charity organisations for a number of years, explained that her main passion lies with animal charities.

“Besides animal charities, I also have an interest in cancer in animals and helping with the treatment and comforting of cancer in humans,” Ellis said.

It’s clear that the charities she works with are close to her heart, “I have lost some friends to cancer and have some friends who have survived cancer or are busy fighting cancer,” Ellis said.

One of them, she explained, was Michael Cotton who was diagnosed with aggressive prostate cancer in January, and is still undergoing treatment.

Another is Ralph Dowse who has won his battle against cancer.

“These are two remarkable men with positive attitudes and a will to fight the fight.”

Ellis supports puppy shelter, Ark Animal Centre, by organising an annual golf day at Dainfern Country Club for Ark and collecting food for the shelter throughout the year.

“I am also busy planning some events with Bark for Life, an American cancer society fundraising event which honours the life-long contributions of our canine caregivers,” she said.

Ellis explained that she hoped to use the Mrs SA pageant as a platform to increase awareness, involvement and sponsors on a bigger scale for her charities.

“The charity the Mrs SA pageant supports is the Cancer Association of South Africa, they host a number of events throughout South Africa to raise cancer awareness and precaution for cancer,” explained Ellis.

Apart from her charity work, Ellis is known in the Dainfern golfing and tennis circles.
