With comedians such as Trevor Noah, Glen Biederman-Pam and John Vlismas taking South Africa’s comedy scene to new heights, you’ve got to know where to find the best comedy clubs in the city.

The Box at P.O.P Art

The Box at the P.O.P Art Theatre in Maboneng has pioneered the comedy experience with their weekly show featuring a number of underground, local and international comedians, in addition to the household names. The Box is a little over three years old and their Sunday event is still going strong. Maboneng, being an up-and-coming neighbourhood in the city, gives way for the managers of the precinct to bring new and innovative ideas to the area. The weekly show usually sells out and has featured the likes of Loyiso Gola, Kagiso Lediga, Trevor Gumbi and many more.

Roast Café and The Goliath Comedy Club

New to Melrose Arch, the new coffee hotspot presents a unique dual-experience café and comedy show at The Venue. The Goliath and Goliath comedy collective burst onto the scene at small-time events and clubs but are now paving the way for the exploration of new avenues in comedy. Bringing comedy to a café is not a first, but they’re doing it in a big way and they never disappoint.

Parker’s Comedy and Jive

An established part of the Fourways community, Parker’s Comedy and Jive at Montecasino attracts the masses for their nightly comedy shows and exciting headline acts. Joe Parker, founder of the club, forms an integral part of the show with his entertaining punchlines and 18-rated jokes that leave the crowd in stitches. He features big name comedians including Celeste Ntuli, among others, and this spot stays pumping after the comedy has ended. That’s right, when the comedy ends, the DJ begins and gets the crowd dancing all night long.
