Another movie gem added to local film industry

JOBURG - With the nationwide release of the film Safe Bet, another homegrown cinematic production is being added to the South African entertainment industry.

The film, which stars Wandile Molebatsi, Luthuli Dlamini and T-Bo Touch, has already scooped numerous awards on the festival circuit having garnered wins at the Global Independent Film Awards and Silicon Valley African Film Festival.

“I never doubted Luthuli as the perfect fit for the role of Doc. He has a certain machismo that goes with him,” said the film’s director and producer, Bonginhlanhla ‘Mr B’ Ncube.

“He pulled off an amazing accent that spiced up his dialogue delivery. I think he is worth watching over and over again. The same goes for Wandile Molebatsi and the amazing cast that we worked with on this film.”

The cast brings to life the story of a down and out do-gooder, Frank, who is swayed to take the easy way out by investing in a get rich quick scheme using stolen funds.

His none-the-wiser best friend, Khaya, is the mastermind in securing funds, leading to an encounter with the villain of the film, Doc.

Molebatsi took on the role due to his personal ties to the character in the film. “My parents were my personal inspiration,” Molebatsi told City Buzz.

“When I thought of my father being ill, I was able to understand Frank’s motivation. The work that I saw the team and Mr B do to make this film happen inspired me to push. The love for film was my push,” he said.

The proudly South African film is sure to bring a smile to your face and show you what the local industry leaders have to offer.

The film opened at Ster Kinekor Theatres nationwide on 11 March.
