Guests enjoy hit splash production

JOBURG - Audience members were enchanted and entertained by the splash hit production Singin’ in the Rain at the Teatro in Montecasino.

The show is produced by Pieter Toerien and will be at the theatre until 13 March. The production’s 1927 setting tells the story of the first Hollywood musical when the silver screen found its voice and left the silent movies and some of its stars behind. The production is packed with charm, romance, comedy and Tinseltown glamour.

Cape Town-born musical star, Bethany Dickson, takes on the role of aspiring actress Kathy Selden opposite Grant Almirall who makes his debut as the charming Don Lockwood. The production has 27 cast members including Steven van Wyk as Cosmo Brown, Mark Richardson as Roscoe Dexter, James Borthwick as RF Simpson, Taryn-Lee Hudson as Lina Lamont and Anne Power as Dora.

The show features all the popular songs from the glorious MGM score including Good Morning, Make ‘em Laugh, Moses Supposes and the classic Singin’ in the Rain.

The show uses about 12 000 litres of recycled water per performance in its rain scenes, leaving audience members in the front rows a little wetter than when they arrived.

Attendees are advised that the first three rows of the stalls (A to C) are designated as the ‘splash zone’ where there will be chances of a shower during the screenplay’s big number.
