Venturing into the city can leave first-timers, and veteran explorers, a little dazed, confused and scared, but there’s no need to panic because City Buzz is going to help you identify where you are by using your surroundings.

If you see any of these pieces of street art, that means you are on the lower half of Gwigwi Mrwebi Street.

Don’t feel too frazzled if you find yourself here because you are within walking distance of Newtown’s own mall, Newtown Junction. Newtown Junction is filled with all the retail stores and restaurants you could think of – they even have a gym and cinema.

Also within walking distance of Gwigwi Mrwebi Street, is Mary Fitzgerald Square, where a number of events are held and the same place in which some rich history is encapsulated.

If you’re looking for live music in the area, you can also find Bassline, an iconic venue that has hosted the likes of Brenda Fassie, Ringo Madlingozi, Monique Bingham and many more international acts.

Situated in the lower half of Gwigwi Mrwebi Street, you will find Craft Coffee, where you can get a great cup of the good stuff, something light to snack on and even a plug point where you can charge your cellphone or laptop.

One of the most iconic venues in Newtown is Gwigwi Mrwebi Street’s Carfax venue. Carfax hosts a number of themed events including the 420: Weed Parade, Tequila Fest and even the MTv DJ battles.

If you recognise any of these pictures, now you know where you are.
