Chris de Burgh comes to SA

JOBURG - It has been confirmed that due to exceptional demand, a fifth date has been added for Chris de Burgh in Johannesburg as part of his Hands of Man Tour.

De Burgh is certainly no stranger to South African audiences.

“This is the sixth time we have had the privilege to promote Chris de Burgh since 1993, and we are very pleased that after 23 years the demand for tickets is overwhelming,” commented Big Concerts CEO, Attie van Wyk.

While much has changed since his debut album, De Burgh’s music has retained its integrity, so much so that after album sales in excess of 50 million, the musician released The Hands of Man, his 20th studio album of original material.

Recorded at his home studio in Ireland and at Mark Knopfler’s British Grove facility in London, The Hands of Man has once again been produced by Chris Porter and features contributions from the members of De Burgh’s touring band.

Spanish Train and Other Stories was the musician’s first major album success in South Africa and the first single, Just Another Poor Boy, from this album hit number one on a number of charts.

By the time he released Man On The Line in 1981, the chart topper was a well-established global star and the single from this album High On Emotion became a number one record across the globe.

It was the year of 1986 that saw the release of Into The Light, De Burgh’s most successful record up to that point, selling in excess of 10 million copies worldwide. It also featured the single Lady In Red, which hit number one position on a number of charts in 50 countries worldwide and is still one of the most played songs on the planet.

De Burgh will visit Johannesburg and perform at The Teatro at Montecasino in Fourways on 5, 6, 8, 9 and 10 April.
