Just Jinjer release new album since 2006

JOBURG - Just Jinjer is a household name in rock music and they've just launched their first album since 2006.

The band, made up of Ard Matthews, Brent Harris and Denholm Harding, originated in South Africa at a time when the youngest member was just 17.

It has been almost 20 years since then and they have toured the world, lived and played in California for six years, and returned to Johannesburg to create more meaningful music.

The band has been living in Johannesburg again since 2009 and has produced their first album since being here titled Everything Since Then.

The sound of the new album is more electronic than they’ve done before, and it’s not one that could described as traditional rock, but what was most important about producing it was the feeling of writing together again, the said.

“The feeling of the album is a lot lighter in terms of the subject matter and the energy,” said Harding.

Matthews added, “It’s a much happier record and you can kind of feel the rekindling of the band after that little break.”

With their latest album being released nine years after their previous one, it was important for them to produce meaningful music, rather than the shallow content of commercial music that is so popular today.

“I’m starting to get a lot of feedback from people who are saying, ‘thank you for speaking to my soul and making me feel good when I listen to your music’, rather than making content that is meaningless,” said Matthews.

Coincidentally, it is that same meaningful music that has allowed them to achieve such longevity in the music industry. They aim to make music that is relevant, relatable and meaningful to keep people interested in buying their music.

The band firmly believes that moving back to the country was the best choice they could have made and now that they’re in a happier space, they can and will continue to make music until it stops being fun – and with those three characters, the fun may never stop.
