Kids treated to theatre production for Universal Children’s Day

JOBURG - BRAAMFONTEIN – On 21 November, Isidingo actress Kgomotso Christopher celebrated Universal Children’s Day by inviting 35 children from Nkosi’s Haven to watch the production, The Little Mermaid Jr at The Peoples Theatre.

Nkosi’s Haven on Mitchell Street in Johannesburg is an orphanage that focuses on looking after mothers and children infected with HIV/Aids. The school was opened to commemorate and continue the dream of famous child activist, Nkosi Johnson, who died at the age of 12.

Universal Children’s Day, which is celebrated on 20 November, was established in 1954 to promote international togetherness and awareness among the children of the world.

Christopher banded together with the theatre in order to give 35 children a day of glitz, glam and fun. The children, aged between 6 and 12 years old, were bustling with excitement as they filed into the theatre to catch The Little Mermaid Jr.

The Peoples Theatre also celebrated 20 years of providing quality, educational, fun-filled family theatre shows to countless families across the country. After almost two hours of non-stop entertainment, the children from Nkosi’s Haven were treated to goodie bags packed with sneakers and caps from Le Coq Sportif, toiletries from Clarins SA, sweets from Africa Organic and Bakers Biscuits as well as toys and other treats from Mille, Samson, Clippa Sales and Phashash.
