President Zuma is the subject of a new book

JOBURG – A parody book about President Jacob Zuma was launched at the Highveld Forum in Sandton.

Goodnight zzZuma by Anonymous is written along the lines of Goodnight Bush which went viral and became a runaway best seller in the United States in 2008. The quirky book about the Bush administration invited a South African version featuring Zuma.

Both of the parodies are based on Goodnight Moon, a children’s classic written in 1947 by Margaret Wise Brown and illustrated by Clement Hurd.

The decision to launch the book about Zuma was one of many insights into the workings of the publishing jungle revealed by Bridget Impey, managing director of Jacana Media.

In the book, Zuma is seen in a great green room, tucked away in bed and says ‘Goodnight’ to all the familiar things in the room – the pictures of his favourite wives, to the Guptas and the helipad.

The book brings out a few chuckles, but it does hit hard with its subject matter.

“It is tricky finding the right books, but Jacana Media are trouble makers who go hunting for good books in a variety of ways,” said Impey while addressing members of the Highveld Forum in Sandton.

Some of the books launched by Jacana Media include Dub Steps, which is a piece of fiction by Andrew Miller. To Catch a Cop by Marianne Thamm was also launched by Jacana Media, as well as Jani Confidential by journalist Jani Allen, and Radio 702 Talk Show host Redi Tlhabi’s Endings and Beginnings, which ended up winning the Alan Paton Sunday Times Book Award.
