The Motherland wows at Barnyard Theatre

SUNNINGHILL - Local hipster folk band, The Motherland launched their latest album Don't Waste My Tears at the Barnyard Theatre in Sunninghill.

Alongside fellow bands Lost&Found and Adventure Man, the theatre rocked to the trendiest party of the year where The Motherland’s performance lived up to their magnificent name.

The massive venue designed more for power ballads than acoustic indie rock, was a far cry from The Motherland’s usual cozy stomping ground at the Fourways Farmers Market or smaller, intimate gatherings on rooftops and in bars around Jozi. But the band’s five members were equal to the challenge, and raised the roof with their catchy beat, pulling a large crowd along for the ride with their personal, friendly audience interaction.

A special note was added with a guest performance by Teagan McGinley, who took to the stage with graceful confidence and backed the band with stunning, soaring vocals.

The launch took place on 2 April.
